The much-anticipated second album from Firelight Trio is finally here. MIDNIGHT FOLLOWED is a collection of new, self-penned pieces which celebrate the trio’s broad, pan-European influences and travels. Scottish, Celtic, French, Scandinavian, klezmer, jazz, classical and contemporary amongst others - all well marinated in a mixture of philosophy, existentialism and humour.

‘Firelight Trio are made up of accordion and piano player Phil Alexander (from Moishe’s Bagel), remarkable Scottish fiddle player Gavin Marwick and Ruth Morris on nyckelharpas. All three possess a virtuoso’s touch and, when they play together, the results are utterly transportive.
Joyous, deliriously uplifting, wildly inventive, it is breathtakingly beautiful, gently contemplative, wonderfully thoughtful. It is, in short, everything that makes European music so great.’
- FATEA review of the first album
Following on from the success of their debut album, which was universally loved by audiences and reviewers alike, Firelight Trio have been steadily building their reputation for wowing audiences. Their compelling and warmly inspiring performances are enchantingly danceable, richly reflective and deeply entrancing.
‘Renowned for their ability to turn simplicity into monumental contemplative musical images. Dance rhythms are interspersed with beautiful (and above all unusual) harmonies, cheerful melancholy, and the joy of the game shines over everything like the sun.’
- Folkové Prázdiny (CZ) describe Firelight Trio live.
Midnight Followed is entirely written and arranged by the band, and shows a marked confidence as all three musicians have contributed pieces crafted and shaped by their own different backgrounds and experiences. It’s a glorious mixture of time signatures, dance forms and textures. Together they create a unified whole that clearly states: “This is us, and it is Scotland, and it is Europe”.
Many thanks to Creative Scotland for the funding support which made this album possible.
