Veterans of thousands of ceilidhs, wedding dances, concerts and other gigs, these are top class musicians who have performed all over the world in bands such as Iron Horse, Old Blind Dogs, Cantrip, Moishe’s Bagel, Firelight Trio, Bellevue Rendezvous and many, many, others. The regular trio of the band can be extended to a larger line-up with the addition of, for example, percussion, drums, extra fiddles, sax or other melody instruments.

 UNIQUE TRADITIONAL MUSIC

Whirligig have a truly unique and compelling style based around the traditional fiddle and accordion sound. They approach the world of ceilidh dancing with a repertoire tune-list fit for the 21st century and incorporate melodies, dances and influence from all around Scotland, Europe and beyond. There are plenty of old favourites as well as new original music, much of which is written by the band members themselves.

 DANCING: FUN TO DO AND EASY TO LEARN

With top quality dance instructions from Ruth, you’ll never put a foot wrong and you’ll come away having learnt a few new dances. There are all the classics like Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow and Dashing White Sergeant as well as other couple dances, set dances and waltzes. Fun to do and easy to learn. Ceilidh dancing is wonderful for social gatherings of any kind as anyone of any age from anywhere can get up and dance with anyone and everyone else.

 IN CONCERT

In performance the band are of the moment improvisational, full of energy and yet still in control of tempo. If you’re not on the floor dancing your socks off, they can also keep you on the edge of your seat with their thrilling, mercurial arrangements. Excitement guaranteed.
